Guided by a museum educator, each ARTventure explores the artistic processes of a highlighted artwork in the museum’s collection. Each month is a different experience for the whole family to enjoy! This in-person program is perfect for all ages and all levels of artistic ability. Individual creativity and self-expression is encouraged! Drop-ins welcome.

Select from the session options above. Space is limited and spots fill up quickly. Advanced reservation strongly encouraged but drop-ins are welcome. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your session.

Time: Every 2nd Saturday, 1:00-3:00
Location: Lange Family Experienceter Classroom
Ages: All ages welcome!
Cost: Free with admission, advanced registration encouraged

Max Capacity: 20 max at any given time (20 max capacity of the room, guests welcome to wait in Experiencenter Gallery until space is available if classroom is filled). Drop-in Studio format.

Description: Looking for fun and creative projects for you and your family? Take your family on an ARTventure with a variety of art-making experiences. Guided by a museum educator, each ARTventure explores the artistic processes of a highlighted artwork in the museum’s collection. January 13: Chinese Ink Drawing – Featured Gallery / Exhibition: Gallery 112 Chinese Art
Learn Sumi ink drawing techniques to create a landscape inspired by ink drawings from the Chinese collection gallery artworks.

February 10: Line Portrait Painting – Featured Gallery / Exhibition: Focus Exhibition Techno-Cubism by James Pate: The Art of Line Painting
Create a painted portrait using line drawing techniques featured in Focus Exhibition Techno-Cubism by James Pate: The Art of Line Painting.

March 9: Ukrainian Egg Collage – Featured Gallery / Exhibition: Special Exhibition: The Artistic Life of Aka Pereyma
Using pattern, shape, and color, construct a delicately decorated paper collage to explore the excellent artworks of Special Exhibition: The Artistic Life of Aka Pereyma.

April 13: Japanese Cherry Tree Printmaking – Featured Gallery / Exhibition: Gallery 105 Japanese Art
Let your creativity blossom as we explore printmaking techniques and processes featured in our Japanese print collection. Create Styrofoam relief prints of Japanese cherry trees to celebrate the beginning of spring!

May 11: Japanese Clay Sculpture
Featured Gallery / Exhibition: Focus Exhibition Captivating Clay: Contemporary Japanese Ceramics from the Horvitz Collection
Inspired by Focus Exhibition Captivating Clay: Contemporary Japanese Ceramics from the Horvitz Collection, use a variety of clay pottery techniques to create a unique hand-built or hand-carved clay sculpture.

Please Note: The DAI implemented a new ticketing and membership system in 2021. If you have not previously used this system, you will need to create a user account in order to reserve your space. If you are a museum member, the system will connect that user account to your membership profile, in order to receive your member discount.
